For the second time, the members of "Der Autobahn Scrapers" VW Club organized their Drag Day at the airfield of Bitburg. Much more people than the year before enjoyed a weekend packed with drag race action. And the weather couldn't have been better as you can see on the pictures. Well, we just hope they'll do it again in 2005!
These two gassers built and owned by the Otto brothers were my favourite cars of the weekend. They combined the metalflake-pinstriping-lettering look of the early race cars with the capability of running 11s.
Another throwback to the late 60s was this DKP1 inspired black oval. It really captures the spirit of those early lookers with its stock riding height, Crestline wheels, bias ply tires and the typical glasspack exhaust. Simple and beautiful!
The evening sun shines above our four GEZUVOR VW Club cars. I love that atmosphere.
Manuel aka James Dubiosi just fitted a set of "Schwarzwald Performance" t-bars. He was able to run a 15.85 with his 1600cc engine! That's the good news. The bad news is that he broke the gearbox during his fifth run...
The second time on the strip for my '60 but the first time with a timeslip. I was really happy with my 15.70 (see swissfiles for engine specs) but I'm sure I'll can do better.
Paolo's lowlight convertible in the background made friends with this awesome Ghia coupe from the norwegian Der Schnellfahrers club.
Great car with an engine built by FAT-performance in the 70s! Unfortunately a connecting rod broke and destroyed the case.
The first official roll-out for André Urban's blue Oval on Steiner wheels and with a killer stance.
Time to admire some DFL member cars, like Felix' black notchback...
...Olaf's just finished '65 bug on repro 5-spokes...
...and Christian's perfectly detailed '66 sedan.
